Summary
The main purpose of motorcycle helmets is to protect the
biker’s head from injuries should there be an accident. A motorcycle helmet is
a safety gear, yet it can be customized to express the driver’s individuality.
Body
Every biker knows
that nothing can compare to the thrill of riding on an open road. It is about
the exhilarating feeling of the wind on your face and being one with your
machine. Bikers have different preferences when it comes to motorcycles.
Oftentimes their choices mirror their personality. Some prioritize speed,
others prefer comfort, and others judge physical appearance.
Whatever type of
biker you may be, and whatever your preference for bikes is, there is one thing
that you and other bikers should not overlook – safety. When it comes to riding
motorcycles, the most important safety gear you must wear is the helmet. Its
main purpose is to protect you from head injuries in case of accidents. Helmets
serve other purposes as well, such as face shield, ventilation, and ear
protection. Generally, motorcycle helmets are made of a thin hard shell and an
inner lining that is thick but soft.
A motorcycle helmet’s
main function is for safety; however, motorcycle helmets can help show your
individuality. They can be fully customized quite easily.
Custom Motorcycle Helmets
The
customization of helmets allows riders to display their individual sense of
style and display it for the world to see. It can also showcase something that
they take pride in. There are also bikers that join charity organizations. They
participate in riding events that serve as fundraisers for medical funds and
other worthy causes. The money these events save has helped countless
individuals and has given bikers a noble sense of purpose.
Bikers
can customize their helmets reflective of these causes as well as the
achievements and contributions they have done. Custom helmets can promote the
charities they support as they ride, such as cancer research, children’s cancer
fund, and others. Some bikers simply need to express their flair for art and
use their helmets as their canvass.
There
are so many ways that you can customize your helmet. For inspiration, you can
surf the net and look at some photos of customized helmets and perhaps some
instruction on how they are done. Let me share some of my helmet customization
ideas.
State Colors
If
you want to show off where you are from, there is nothing to express it better
that wearing your state or country’s flag or colors that represent it. You can
also make use of state mottos, such as New Jersey’s ‘Liberty and Prosperity,’
or Florida’s ‘In God We Trust’ to show your pride.
Names
Like
paying homage to someone with a tattoo of their name in your body, you can also
show your affection for a special person by inking your helmet instead. This is
if you’d rather not have the needles. This will make that special person very
happy, and people will understand what the name in your helmet signifies.
Airbrushed Murals
One
popular way to customize motorcycle helmets is painting murals on them. You can
opt for an airbrushed mural that will include your helmet and motorcycle gear.
The use of bright colors will also make your helmet more conspicuous during the
day and even at night.
Memorial
You can keep the memory of a loved one who has passed away
by painting a message on your helmet. Another wonderful way of doing this is by
airbrushing poems or photographs of your loved one. This will keep the memory
of them close and will send a strong signal to people who you may come across.
Let your helmet say it all.
Fantasy
You can use your helmet to show illusions of fantasy. There
are many designs that you can choose from, like fairies, dragons, skulls or
wolves. You can ask a great artist to develop the image you want and transfer
it to your motorcycle helmet.
There are only four states in the US that don’t have laws
concerning motorcycle head gear. Majority of the states have passed laws
strictly requiring riders over 16 years old to wear helmets. Regardless whether
there are state rules or not, proper head protection should always be every
biker’s priority. Before going places with your motorcycle, it would be best to
check all your state’s laws on motorcycles. It is always better to be safe than
sorry.
