Saddle up with Motorcycle
Rain Gear
Summary
Although riding in the rain can be fun, seasoned bikers know
that it can also be messy and dangerous. You don’t have to cancel riding dates
with your friends and mope in your room. All you need are motorcycle rain gears
to keep you dry and safe under the rain.
Body
Bikers
know how disappointing a rain can be on days when you have planned to ride with
your friends. Well, the weather is an inevitable factor that outdoors people
have to contend with. The best way to deal with it is by being prepared all the
time. Seasoned bikers will most likely advice you to invest on decent quality
motorcycle rain gear that will keep you safe and dry on the road, and can last
long even on excessive use.
You
must choose your rain gear as carefully as you have chosen your bike. If you
notice that your motorcycle shops are not updating their shelves with good
quality rain gear, you can check online and choose from a wide array of
products. Let me share with you several things that you must always have in
your saddle bag to protect you in the event of rain.
Rain Suit
Generally,
rain suits come in two styles. The two piece suit, which consists of a pair of
rain jacket and rain pants, is a popular choice among bikers. The pants are
fitted with elastic waist for convenience and comfort. They are also designed
to be worn over your existing clothing, so choose a comfortable fit but not a
very loose one. A Velcro strip is also placed at the bottom of each leg to make
sure that you have a snug fit and sealed from the rain. Rain jackets that come
with the rain pants may either have a hood of not. It depends upon your
personal preference; however if you are likely to be stuck in the rain for long
periods of time, the hooded rain jacket is the best choice for you. It will
keep the rain from getting into your neck and eventually soaking your back.
Just like with your rain pants, your rain jacket must fit you comfortably but
must not be too loose. Another option from 2 piece rain suits are one piece
suits. Either of the two will provide you the same protection from the harsh
elements of rain.
Waterproof Boot Covers
Now
that your body is protected from the rain, you must also wear something to
protect your riding boots. You can purchase waterproof boot covers to do the
job. They can be slipped on over your motorcycle boots and effectively keep
water and moisture away. One tip you may want to keep in mind is to put your
waterproof boot covers on before stepping into your rain pants. This way, your rain
pants will overlap your boot covers preventing water from seeping into your
boots. Another alternative to waterproof boot covers is applying a layer of
beeswax or other waterproofing agents to your motorcycle boots; however I
personally think that waterproof boot covers are more effective especially
during long exposures to rain.
Gloves
Even
if it might have been a warm day before the rain poured, a pair of gloves is
still an essential rain gear. It will help you in keeping a solid grip on the
hand controls. Your gloves will also protect your hands from cold when the
temperature starts dropping, and give you maximum control over your motorcycle.
Face Shield/Goggles
When
it rains, the riding conditions on the road become more dangerous. So, it is
very important that you are able to see the road clearly. Although it is necessary
to wear eye protection at all times, the need becomes more urgent when you are
riding in the rain. The use of face shields is also very helpful, regardless of
the kind of helmet you are wearing; be it a full face helmet or only a half
one. One thing you have to watch out for when wearing glasses or goggles during
rain is that they get fogged up. There are several products available in the
market to prevent this, but a face shield will solve the problem. Face shields
increase your vision substantially.
Just
like any adventures you engage with in your lifetime, the best way to succeed
is by planning ahead and making sure that you are prepared for anything. You
can now ride your motorcycle without worrying about impending or sudden rain
showers. Just keep your rain gear in your saddle and have the ride of your
life!
